IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

What is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognized English language proficiency test for non-native speakers. It is commonly used for international education, work, and migration purposes. The test evaluates your ability in four key areas: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Hanami offers expert IELTS preparation classes to help you build confidence and achieve your target score.

Why is the IELTS Exam Important?

IELTS is accepted by over 10,000 organizations worldwide, including universities, employers, professional associations, and government bodies. Countries such as the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and over 140 others accept IELTS for academic and immigration purposes.

IELTS is widely regarded as the gold standard of English language testing and is a key requirement for studying, working, or settling in English-speaking countries.

Types of IELTS Exams

There are three main types of IELTS exams, based on your purpose:

1. IELTS Academic
Designed for students applying for undergraduate, postgraduate, or professional registration in an English-speaking country.

2. IELTS General Training
Ideal for those migrating to English-speaking countries or applying for secondary education, work experience, or training programs.

3. IELTS for UKVI
A Secure English Language Test (SELT) approved by the UK Home Office. Required for visa and immigration purposes in the United Kingdom.

IELTS Test Format

The IELTS test can be taken in two modes: computer-delivered or paper-based. Regardless of format, the test includes four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

While the Speaking and Listening sections are the same for both Academic and General Training versions, the Reading and Writing sections differ slightly to reflect the purpose of the test.

IELTS Eligibility

1. Number of Attempts
There is no limit to the number of times you can take the IELTS exam.

2. Who Can Take IELTS?
Anyone planning to study, work, or migrate to an English-speaking country can take the test. There are no restrictions based on age, nationality, or academic background, although it is recommended for individuals aged 16 and above.

3. Countries That Accept IELTS
IELTS is recognized in over 140 countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and the Netherlands.

4. Required IELTS Score
Score requirements vary by institution. Most top universities require an overall band score of 7.0, with no section scoring less than 6.5.
